Expired provisional licence holder caught riding motorbike

A 22-year-old from Weymouth was caught riding a motorbike after his provisional licence had expired, a court has heard.

Liam James Dowden, of Bohays Drive, Weymouth, was caught riding a black Yamaha motorbike in Easton Road, on Portland, without a licence on August 7 last year, Weymouth Magistrates Court heard.

On Tuesday, May 31 Dowden admitted driving the black Yamaha motorbike otherwise than in accordance with a licence, namely that his provisional licence had expired on July 3, 2019.

Defendant’s guilty plea taken into account when imposing sentence.

Dowden must now pay a £34 fine and a surcharge to fund victim services of £34 – totalling £68.

His driving record was also endorsed with three points, which will trigger once he obtains a full driving licence.
