Police Appeal for Information After Blind Man Assaulted in Weymouth
Police are appealing for witnesses after a blind man was assaulted in Weymouth during the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Dorset Police said officers were called at 2.24am on Thursday 1 January 2026 following a report that a man in his 40s had been attacked in Dorchester Road, near the Manor Roundabout.
The victim was reportedly punched in the face by another man and sustained a suspected injury to his mouth. Police confirmed that while the man was injured, he did not require immediate medical treatment at the scene.
Police Constable Aaron Strange, of the Weymouth policing team, said the incident is being treated seriously due to the vulnerability of the victim.
“This was an assault on a vulnerable individual and we are carrying out a full investigation into the incident,” he said.
“I am keen to hear from any witnesses and I would also urge any motorists with dashcam who were in the area, as well as residents with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, to please review footage from around the relevant time to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.”
Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was travelling through or living near Dorchester Road and the Manor Roundabout at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260000081.
Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
Police say all information, no matter how small it may seem, could help progress the investigation.
