Radio 1’s Greg James to Begin 1,000km Charity Ride in Weymouth
Radio one Breakfast Show presenter Greg James will be in Weymouth on Friday 13 March to begin a major cycling challenge in aid of Comic Relief.
The challenge, titled Radio one’s Longest Ride, will see Greg attempt to cycle from Weymouth to Edinburgh, covering around 1,000 kilometres over eight days. The first stage of the journey will start on the seafront near the Weymouth Pavilion.
Welcoming the announcement, the Mayor of Weymouth, Caroline Nickinson, said the town is delighted to host the starting point. She noted that Greg has often mentioned Weymouth on air, and said residents are expected to give him a warm send-off as he begins the challenge.
Speaking on Radio one Breakfast Show when the event was announced, Greg said he was looking forward to starting in a place that means a great deal to him, adding that many of his family members are from Weymouth.
Radio one presenters have a long history of supporting Comic Relief and Sport Relief through demanding fundraising challenges. Greg himself has previously taken on major endurance events, including the 2016 “Gregathlon” and a 2018 mountain-climbing and cycling challenge that together raised significant funds for charity.
Further details about the ride are expected to be released closer to the day.
