Safety Reminder Issued Following Heavy Rain Along Dorset Coast
Dorset Council is reminding residents and visitors to take extra care along the coast following recent heavy rainfall, which increases the risk of rockfalls and landslips.
Although prolonged wet weather can raise the likelihood of cliff instability, rockfalls and landslips can occur at any time. People visiting the coast are advised to take notice of warning signs, keep to established paths, stay well away from the edge and base of cliffs, and check tide times before setting out.
The Jurassic Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretching 95 miles through Dorset and Devon, and is internationally recognised for its outstanding geology, fossils and landforms. The coastline has been shaped over millions of years by erosion from the sea and weather, with rockfalls and landslips forming a natural and essential part of this ongoing process.
Dorset Council encourages everyone to enjoy the coast safely and responsibly, and to remain aware of the natural risks associated with this dynamic environment.
