Stalls in Dorchester & Weymouth Build Momentum Ahead of January Protest
Three days ago, Stop The Incinerator stalls in Dorchester and Weymouth demonstrated the growing strength of opposition to the Portland incinerator.
Throughout the day, volunteers spoke with residents who were keen to learn more, share concerns, and show their support.
The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive, with many people eager to get involved as they build towards their major protest on 17th January. It was clear that opposition to the incinerator is not fading—if anything, it is gaining momentum.
We want the Port and Powerfuel to understand one thing clearly: the community is not backing down.
This campaign is rooted in the defence of our community’s health and wellbeing. The constant flow of heavy lorries travelling to and from the incinerator site is reason enough for serious concern—bringing increased air pollution, noise, road safety risks, and disruption to everyday life. But these impacts are only part of a much wider problem.
There are numerous other detrimental effects linked to the incinerator, including long-term risks to public health, damage to our local environment, and pressure on already stretched infrastructure. These are concerns repeatedly raised by residents and cannot be dismissed say the group.
Crucially, there are better alternatives to an incinerator on Portland. Cleaner, more sustainable waste solutions exist—solutions that respect both people and planet. Stop The Incinerator will continue to campaign tirelessly for those alternatives and for the protection our environment deserves.
