This year’s Wessex Folk Festival has been cancelled because of the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 Corona virus. The popular music and dance festival was due to have been held around Weymouth Harbour from May 29 to 31. In a statement, the festival organisers said:
“Following a meeting of the Management Committee on March 16, we have decided, with great regret, to cancel the 2020 Wessex Folk Festival. We are now less than 11 weeks away from the festival dates of May 30 and 31 and the Coronavirus pandemic has created a situation of such uncertainty that we feel that this is the only responsible course to take.
“The festival draws large numbers of people from all over the country – the musicians and dance sides, their friends and families, and the audiences who love the crowded harbourside, trade stalls, restaurants and pubs. The Government is rightly urging people to protect themselves by adopting a policy of social distancing and we believe that it is better to make a decision now and provide absolute clarity to all of our performers, stall holders, sponsors and the general public.
“We wish you all good health, and look forward to seeing you again in 2021.”
