Weymouth Beach section to close for annual levelling works

A section of Weymouth Beach will be closed to the public from Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February to allow for annual sand-levelling works.

The closure will affect the stretch between the Pavilion Theatre and the Jubilee Clock. The area will be cordoned off from 8:00 am on Monday and will remain closed, including overnight, until the works are completed at 7:00 pm on Friday. The restrictions are in place to ensure public safety while heavy machinery is operating.

Weymouth Town Council said the work is necessary after recent winter storms significantly shifted sand levels on the beach. The levelling is scheduled to coincide with spring tides, when lower water levels allow machinery to reach areas normally underwater.

What visitors should know

  • Access points between the Pavilion and Jubilee Clock will be closed during the works.
  • Signage will be in place along the promenade to direct pedestrians.
  • Some early seaweed clearance may take place beforehand, while the beach remains open.

The council has asked residents and visitors to respect safety barriers and follow updates through its official channels.
