Young Voices Workshop to Explore the Wonders of Animal Migration

Young people aged 14–18 with an interest in nature and wildlife conservation are invited to take part in a free Young Voices Workshop: Wonders of Migration, hosted by Dorset Wildlife Trust on Sunday 11 January 2026.

The workshop will take place from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Fine Foundation Wild Chesil Centre, Portland, Dorset (DT4 9XE), and forms part of Dorset Wildlife Trust’s regular monthly Young Voices programme. These sessions are designed to empower local young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to stand up for the environment and make a positive difference.

This January session will focus on the fascinating phenomenon of animal migration. Participants will explore what migration is, why species migrate, and the challenges animals face on their journeys. From whales and wildebeest to birds and butterflies, the workshop will highlight the incredible distances travelled by wildlife and the remarkable ways animals navigate the globe.

The session will include both indoor and outdoor activities, with time spent outside using binoculars to look for migratory bird species that visit Chesil and the Fleet during the winter months. It offers a hands-on opportunity to see migration in action while learning more about local wildlife.

Across the Young Voices programme, activities may include:

• Wildlife identification

• Guided walks

• Wellbeing and nature journaling

Each workshop lasts two hours and provides a welcoming space for young people to connect with nature and a community of like-minded peers.

The event is free to attend, but booking is essential.
