Fire Service Issues Safety Reminder on Electrical Fires
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding residents never to use water on an electrical fire and to prioritise personal safety at all times.
The fire service advises that if it is safe to do so, people should pull the plug or switch off the power supply to the affected appliance. However, if there is any risk, they should leave the property immediately.
The guidance is clear: get out, stay out and call 999.
Using water on an electrical fire can be extremely dangerous and may cause serious injury or allow the fire to spread. Fire crews stress that fires involving electricity can escalate quickly, making early evacuation vital.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging households to regularly check electrical appliances, avoid overloading sockets and ensure smoke alarms are fitted and working correctly.
