Coronavirus: people ‘should be wearing’ face masks in shops says PM

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said face masks “should be worn” in shops to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Sunday saw comments of cabinet minister Michael Gove saying face masks should not be compulsory in shops across England.

The Labour Party has accused the government of failing to provide ‘clarity’ on the issue.

The prime minister said the government would decide if “tools of enforcement” are required in the coming days.

Boris Johnson stated: “Throughout this crisis people have shown amazing sensitivity towards other people and understanding of the needs to get the virus down by doing things cooperatively.”

Currently, face coverings are only mandatory on public transport across the UK.
