Police Arrest Suspect After Caravan Break-In Leaves Owners “Shocked and Disheartened”

A caravan owner has spoken of his shock and distress after a break-in at his caravan left thousands of pounds worth of damage and stolen property, describing the incident as a “deeply upsetting invasion” of a place meant for peace and relaxation.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at a caravan site off Monmouth Road, where CCTV footage shows a man entering the area at approximately 6am. Further CCTV later captured the same individual leaving the site around 6.30pm, after spending several hours on the premises.

During that time, the offender is believed to have forced open multiple external storage lockers, broken into the caravan itself, and stolen a number of electronic items. These included a television, a Fire TV Stick, and other technology, along with torches and accessories. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be around £1,000.

In addition to the theft, the caravan sustained significant damage. Each external locker is estimated to cost around £300 to repair or replace, with overall damage likely to exceed £1,000, pending professional repair quotes.

The owner said the emotional impact of the crime has been far greater than the financial loss.

“It’s not about the equipment,” he said. “It’s the damage, the principle, and the fact that someone invaded our space. This is our little haven — our place to relax and switch off — and someone has been inside, gone through everything, and violated that. That’s what hurts the most.”

His wife was described as being particularly emotional following the discovery, with both left feeling shaken, saddened, and disillusioned by the incident.

Despite the distress caused, the owner praised the speed and professionalism of the police response. After contacting 101 and completing an online crime report the same afternoon, officers made contact that same evening. Within two days, officers had visited the family home, taken full details, and confirmed that a suspect had already been arrested.

Police informed the owners that the individual is known to them and is believed to be linked to other recent incidents in the area. A television was reportedly found in the suspect’s possession, which may be connected to the burglary.

While it remains unclear whether all stolen items will be recovered, the owner said he was impressed by how quickly officers acted.

“I was genuinely impressed by how fast the police were,” he said. “They took it seriously, and they moved quickly.”
