Resumption of Essential Repairs at Ferrybridge After Storm
Traffic on the Beach Road A354 route connecting Weymouth and Portland is set to face delays again as repair works on Ferrybridge resume following disruptions caused by Storm Chandra.
Starting today, temporary traffic lights will control a single-lane flow on the bridge. Dorset Council announced that the lights will be operational 24/7 to accommodate ongoing repair efforts on the aging structure, which has served the community for over 40 years.
A council spokesperson stated, “With improved weather conditions, we are switching the temporary traffic lights on from 9:30 AM today. We will closely monitor traffic levels and weather forecasts to make necessary adjustments, ensuring minimal disruption.”
During the repairs, the bridge will remain accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, while abnormally heavy vehicles will be prohibited from crossing. The majority of repair work will occur beneath the bridge, making it largely out of sight.
Dorset Council anticipates that the work will conclude by March 1, though additional short-term traffic signals may still be required afterward. As part of the final stages of the project, there will be a few night-time closures in April, which will be communicated in advance.
Residents and commuters are urged to remain patient as these essential repairs progress to ensure the longevity and safety of this critical link in our community.
